Robin Zingarelli is a PhD candidate at the Brunel University of London.
His research project investigates the representation of transgender subjectivities in video games. He also studies gender minorities in gaming culture, with particular attention to the material implications of game design practices. Preliminary findings from this research were published in the article “Transgender Emergence in Video Games” for the journal Eludamos (2024).
He is co-editor of the special issue of G|A|M|E titled “Queer and Trans Game Studies in Global and Local Contexts” together with Paolo D’Indinosante, Nicole Braida, and Mark Maletska.
Robin also serves as ombudsman for the Digital Games Research Association and is a member of both DiGRA Italia and British DiGRA, where he acts as EDI (Equality, Diversity and Inclusion) representative. He is also part of the Games and Literary Theory committee.
Alongside his academic work, he worked as a game designer, content writer, and 2D artist for serious games and digital museum installations between 2020 and 2024.
