Two days of game-based learning at the Bologna Research Area

April 16–17, 2026

Bologna Research Area
Via Gobetti 101, Bologna

This year, the Bologna Research Area, together with INAF and CNR, is organizing the first edition of Play Area. It is a two-day event dedicated to games as a tool for science communication, education, and research, and is part of the Road to Play program in collaboration with Ludo Labo.

This is the first edition of what we hope will become an annual event focused on games and education.

What is Play Area?

It is a space dedicated to schools where games become a tool for experience, inquiry, and knowledge-building. Through game-based learning activities, workshops, and guided exploration, we will combine science and creativity, critical thinking and imagination, play and learning.

The experiences are designed to foster curiosity and the joy of discovery, teamwork and active participation, as well as the development of scientific and transversal skills.

Thursday, April 16: Teacher Training

Thursday afternoon is dedicated to teachers: an opportunity to explore new teaching methods, try out games developed by scientific institutions, and bring into the classroom tools and approaches that can be easily adapted to their own context.

Friday, April 17: Game-Based Learning for Schools

Friday morning is dedicated to school classes: structured activities for middle and high school students who want to experiment, collaborate, and challenge themselves.
