The Kangourou of Mathematics is a competition that has been active in Australia since 1981 and was introduced in Europe in 1991. The competition is usually held on the third Thursday of March and involves students ranging from the fourth grade of primary school to the final year of high school. It focuses on an educational and outreach goal rather than a competitive one: spreading a basic mathematical culture, providing a reliable tool for worldwide comparison, and at the same time, fully embracing the social richness that the contribution of ideas from many different countries can offer. These are the primary and enlightening reasons behind its mission.
