Book Presentation: EuroWarGames

Published just a few months ago by French publisher Nuts! Publishing, the anthology EuroWarGames: The History and Future of Wargaming in Europe has already made waves in the world of historical simulation games. Authors from across Europe – and beyond – examine the roots, current state, and future trends of this unique game genre that blends academic historical research with immersive gameplay.

Moderated by one of the book’s editors, Riccardo Masini, several contributing authors will present their chapters and discuss key themes within a sector that has shaped gaming history and is currently undergoing a new wave of growth and innovation.

Moderator: Riccardo Masini
A passionate player and writer of multiple books on games, he runs the YouTube channel WLOG and the podcast Checkpoint Charlie. He contributes to both Italian and international magazines such as ioGioco and Punched!, is a member of the Italian Society of Military History (SISM), and chairs the cultural-gaming association LudoStoria.

He curates documentaries and exhibitions on games and collaborates with Wikiradio. In 1999, Italy’s Ministry of Education officially recognised him as an “expert inventor of games.”
  • Giaime Alonge – Professor of Film History at the University of Turin, where he also teaches a course on the history and theory of play, alongside Riccardo Fassone.
  • Alfio Ferrara – Professor of Computer Science at the University of Milan and Rector’s Delegate for AI Literacy. He is one of the founders of the new research centre on Digital Humanities and Applied AI, aiming to bridge the gap between humanities and technology.
