Out of the dungeon. New aesthetic frontiers for roleplaying games

In the collective imagination, roleplaying games are born of a certain time period and share a very definite aesthetic, a mix between Western fantasy literature and the American Eighties that everyone can recognize at a glance. Today revivals and nostalgic callbacks abound, but some projects try to offer an alternative presentation for roleplaying games. Discussing the topic are three voices from the game design studio and publisher NessunDove: momatoes, game and graphic designer from the Republic of Philippines, author of The Magus, ARC and The Marvelous Children of Inang-Uri as well as winner of the Diana Jones Award for emerging designers; Maria Guarneri, graphic artist, illustrator and game designer, twice winner of the Italian Game Chef and of the 2022 Game of the Year prize at the Indie Groundbreaker Awards with Crescendo Giocoso Ritornello; and Chiara Locatelli, game designer and translator, acting as mediator to facilitate discussion in Italian and English.
